| by Zara Zhi

On Nov. 9 Donald Burrell, 57, was sentenced to 1,000 years —  12,370 months — in prison for sexual abuse, reports WBNG 12 Action News. Burrell started raping his victim in 1991 when she was 7 years old and was convicted of more than 5,100 sexual abuse charges, according to Pennsylvania state police.

Bradford County District Attorney Dan Barrett said a jury found Burrell guilty in June, following a four-day trial. Barrett referred to Burrell as a sexually violent individual who will never see the light of day.

Burrell’s particularly long sentence isn’t unprecedented. In 2013 Ariel Castro was sentenced to life without parole plus 1,000 years in prison for kidnapping, raping and imprisoning three women in his Cleveland home.

The record for the longest prison sentence in the U.S. goes to Charles Scott Robinson, a child rapist who was sentenced to 30,000 years in prison in 1994, according to The Huffington Post.
