Law enforcement officials in Philadelphia discovered a 5-year-old girl beaten into semi-consciousness on Tuesday night and are searching for the person who did it (video below).

According to Captain John Darby of the Special Victims Unit, 29-year-old Vyenka Hopkins, the girl’s mother, discovered her daughter, Cynia, missing from her bed on Tuesday morning, NBC Philadelphia reported. She later found the girl in the yard with a broken jaw, skull fractures, as well as abdominal bruises.

Investigators say that the attacker most likely broke into the house through their first floor window. According to Cynia, the man came behind a closet door and took her as she was walking through the hallway. As he took her outside, the man allegedly began to violently assault her. She was then left outside the house.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Cynia is currently in a hospital in stable condition. According to investigators, she was not sexually assaulted during the incident.

“It’s a parent’s worst nightmare,” Vyenka told WTXF.

She added that she hopes the suspect will come forward.

"Turn yourself in,” she said. “You have to be accountable in this world or the next.”

Authorities have since interviewed a homeless man who may have family in the neighborhood.

The public is asked to come forward with any and all information regarding the case.
