A music store owner in Bethel Park, Penn., fatally shot a man who attacked him and his wife with a wooden club on Saturday.

Police Chief John Mackey said a 32-year-old man, whose name was not released, entered Armen’s House of Music just before noon on Saturday. A few minutes later he went out to his car and returned with the weapon. He then struck the owner’s wife with the wooden club. When he tried to protect her, the owner was also hit.

After a struggle, the owner then pulled out a revolver and shot the attacker, killing him.

Both the owner and his wife were taken to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh for unspecified injuries.

Mackey said the motive for the attack was unclear. He said he was not sure if the owner knew the man who attacked them.

Police and county homicide detectives are investigating the incident.

Authorities said the couple is expected to recover.
