Ohio Ex-Con Allegedly Kills Father With Machete One Month After Release

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

An Ohio man convicted of assault allegedly confessed to slaughtering his father with a machete one month after he was released from prison.

Adam Runyons Jr., 32, was living with his father 51-year-old Adam Runyons Sr. and his 4-year-old half-brother since he was released from prison. He served 11 months for assaulting a peace officer and falsification, according to police.

He was arrested Thursday after he told his aunt about the murder, which took place while the 4-year-old was in the home. Authorities found him in a high school parking lot apparently trying to break in through a locked gate.

Police found Runyons Sr.’s body and a bloody machete inside the home.

It is unclear when the victim died, but a neighbor told police he heard a car skid away from the house Wednesday night.

The victim’s 4-year-old son is now under the care of relatives. The boy’s mother reportedly died shortly after she gave birth.

"Now that little boy has no mommy and no daddy," Runyon’s next-door neighbor, Carol Kemery, told the Columbus Dispatch. "He's such a precious little boy."
