The couple was found dead in their bed with their infant child lying in the bed with them, according to a Kenner police spokesman. The baby girl, named Rayne, was only 2 or 3 weeks old, according to NOLA.

A 10-year-old and a 2-year-old child were also in the home at the time of the incident. They were Scott's sons, The Advocate notes. None of the children were injured.

Lt. Brian McGregor said there was no sign of forced entry into the home but added that they are investigating the deaths as a double homicide. He said both victims were shot multiple times and that none of the shots appeared to be self-inflicted.

According to police, the 10-year-old child heard the gunshots and found both victims. That’s when the child knocked on the neighbor’s door and police were called.

Authorities said they are now looking for a gold or champagne-colored vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus. The vehicle was seen leaving the area immediately after the shooting.

The family of both victims were devastated by the news.

"I talked to her last night," Ellen Scott, Dawn's mother, told NOLA.com. "She was good."

"She was a good girl," Ellen added to The Advocate. "I can't say anything else."

"My brother was a loving person," Shaketha Kimbrough, Raynell's sister, said. "He may have had his ups, and he may have had his downs, but he never would do nobody what they did him. And for them to literally put his girlfriend in the middle of this – a mother of three – I mean why?"

"Whatever it may have been, it was cold hearted," Shaketha added. "And the last person you have to answer to is God, and he's going to handle it. Whoever you may be."

Child Protective Services were called to the scene. The motive of the crime is still unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
