A group of New York Police Department officers reportedly piled on top of a man outside a store, but it's not clear why they did.

The Facebook page of El Grito De Sunset Park uploaded a video (below) of the incident on Jan. 27.

In the video, up to as many as 10 police officers appear to slowly encircle the man who is talking on a cellphone. At one point the man appears to raise his hand and the officers rush in and push him down on the sidewalk.

While on top of the man, the officers reportedly demanded he place his hands behind his back so they can handcuff him.

The Facebook page says the man tossed a cigarette butt on the sidewalk, but PhotographyIsNotaCrime.com says the man was not holding a cigarette.

The NYPD has not yet issued a statement, but the incident reminds some observers on Facebook of the NYPD taking down and choking Eric Garner to death in 2014, which was reported by CBS 12 News.
