NYC Man: Blacks Beat Me Because I'm White

A New York City man said a group of black men beat and robbed him on the subway because he is white.

"I'm a small, little white kid with long hair. They got guys three times my size threatening me," 29-year-old Jason Fordell said.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, Fordell said he was on his way home from a nightclub where he sells leather accessories early Sunday morning when the four young men started harassing him.

"People started saying stupid little comments -- cracker this, white boy this, fa***t this," Fordell said. "I told them the only reason they were saying this is there was four of them and one of me."

Then they started beating him.

"I was put in a headlock, punched and kicked on the floor."

Fordell said a fifth man who was not part of the original group jumped in, punching and kicking him in the head.

But the attack did not stop on the train. When Fordell finally got off, they followed him and stole his bag, which contained $2,900 of merchandise. Fordell said he chased them, but he only got beaten more for his efforts.

By the time police arrived, the four men had run off. But for some reason the alleged fifth man hung around, and he was arrested. Barminthe Ramoutar, 54, was charged with felony gang assault and robbery.

Fordell was treated and released at a local hospital.

"I had a whole lot of bleeding from my skull," he said. "My eye is swollen five different colors. There was blood in my urine. I have a footprint on my back and on the back of my neck."

Police are not yet calling this a hate crime. "They have to look at whether that was the motivation before the robbery," police said.
