A 23-year-old South Carolina man arrested for molesting a 5-year-old girl was found to be carrying a sexually transmitted disease, which he gave to the victim.

Ricky Anthony Yeldell, Jr., from Greenwood, was sentenced by circuit Judge Eugene Griffith to 20 years behind bars with two years of probation following release, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to WYFF.

“After Yeldell serves the 20-year active prison sentence in the state prison system he will have an additional 15-year consecutive sentence hanging over his head should he violate his probation conditions. Those conditions include sex offender registry, GPS monitoring and no contact with minor children,” Eighth Circuit attorney David Stumbo said.

Deputy Solicitor Yates Brown and Senior Assistant Solicitor Lance Sheek managed the case for the state. Yeldell was defended by Greenwood attorney Stephen Geoly.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

The 5-year-old was rushed to the emergency room at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood in July 2014, according to Stumbo. Medical professionals found strong evidence of sexual assault and also learned the child tested positive for an STD, reports WHNS. Yeldell also tested positive for the same STD as his victim.

Stumbo praised law enforcement, the Department of Social Services and prosecutors for ensuring that Yeldell received a long-term prison sentence and is labeled a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

“It’s absolutely despicable to think that a grown man, who is supposed to protect, could harm a young child in such a way,” Stumbo said after sentencing. “We will fight for our kids as long as I am in this office to put sick predators like Ricky Yeldell where they belong – behind bars.”
