| by Emily Smith

North Carolina woman Jodi Annette Renegar was arrested on Monday after she reportedly beat a man with a baseball bat after he hit her dog, according to police.

The man was riding his dirt bike on Sandy Springs Road in Mocksville, North Carolina, on Sunday when the dog supposedly began chasing him, WBTV reports. The dog also allegedly attempted to bite the man. In order to avoid the attack, the man said he hit the dog, according to Fox News.

Renegar confronted and assaulted the man near her house later that day. She broke the man’s hand and cut his head with the bat, deputies reported.

Social media commenters have defended Renegar’s actions.

“I would have used more than a bat on him,” one commenter wrote.

Others have defended the man’s actions.

“If the dog actually tried to attack the man for riding by the house he is well within his rights to protect himself,” another commenter wrote. “It sounds like the dog was not properly restrained to begin with.”

Renegar was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. She was given a $150,000 secured bond.

The 43-year-old is expected to appear in court on July 20.
