The South Carolina man who was brutally beaten by his nephew for allegedly trying to rape his girlfriend has been denied bail.

Mattson has been denied bail, reports NBC News.

Police responded to a sexual assault call late last week, but when they arrived, they found the accused brutally beaten.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Mattson’s nephew reportedly assaulted him after he heard noises from another room in the home, kicked down the door, and discovered Mattson on top of his girlfriend.

Police were told by the 21-year-old victim that it was not consensual, reports FOX 8.

Mattson told police he was clothed, but the woman was naked under blankets. He insisted that they only hugged and kissed.

Mattson’s nephew has not been charged with a crime.

“[The boyfriend] was acting in defense of his girlfriend who was being raped,” Conway Police Lt. Selena Small said.
