The charred body of a Queens, New York, woman was found in the bathtub of an apartment on the morning of Oct. 17, and investigators are now attempting to find her boyfriend.

According to ABC7, 28-year-old Miriam Velez-Samayoa was supposed to fly with her boyfriend, Carlos Leon — also known as Carlos Alvarado — to Guatemala to take care of her ailing mother.

Around 4 a.m. on Oct. 17, police found the young woman’s body engulfed in flames in the bathtub. Now, police fear that Leon boarded the flight to Guatemala by himself and are attempting to locate him.

Hector Aigular, the owner of the restaurant where Velez-Samayoa worked, said the last time he saw her was two days before her body was found, when she picked up her check.

“She said ‘I’m going to my country because I want to see my mom because my mom is sick,’” Aigular said, New  York Daily News reported.

Velez-Samayoa’s body, according to reports, was burned head to toe. Police said they believe some kind of an accelerant was used in the apparent attack.

The young woman and her boyfriend had been living with at least six other people at the time of her death.

An investigation is ongoing.
