A 29-year-old English teacher from New Orleans has been arrested on charges of distributing marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The charges related to an incident at Archbishop Hannan High School on May 1 in which Camille Brennan allegedly gave two students pot brownies.

Father Charles Latour, the school’s principal, called in the police after a parent complained to school officials. Brennan resigned her teacher’s post while the investigation was still on-going.

"The care and safety of your sons and daughters is a priority I hold sacred," Latour stated in a letter, reported by WWLTV. "We will continue to fully cooperate with the detectives from the Sheriff's Office in this ongoing investigation."

Brennan was detained by police Thursday after handing herself in at St. Tammany Parish police station. Officers had secured a warrant for her arrest Wednesday. After she was detained she was held in jail, according to WWLTV.

Captain George Bonnett, a police spokesman, said that further charges could be issued.

However, Brennan’s attorney released a statement Thursday maintaining that no evidence had yet been presented to show a crime had been committed.

“At this time, my client has simply requested that we fully cooperate with our judicial system in every capacity," attorney Tim Upton said.

Latour provided a further update to parents following Brennan’s detention.

"Please understand that because this is a police investigation, I have no further information regarding this situation," Latour explained to parents in an email reported by "However, rest assured I will continue to update you when the need to communicate additional information regarding this matter arises. Because of the delicate nature of this matter, I ask that you share this information with your Archbishop Hannan student as you see fit.”

"I ask your prayers for our entire school community,” he concluded.
