A New Orleans man charged in the November shooting of a Tulane University medical student allegedly raped a couple less than 24 hours after the shooting.

Euric Cain, 21, was booked Dec. 9 on two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery, and two counts of carjacking in connection with the Nov. 21 attack, The Times-Picayune reports.

Cain was already in custody for the Nov. 20 shooting of 25-year-old Peter Gold. He was originally being held on a $6 million bond after a Dec. 3 indictment.

That shooting is believed to have occurred as Gold intervened after seeing a man dragging a woman down the street, ABC News reported.

The shooting made headlines after police released surveillance footage of the incident.

Police said Gold stepped in, believing the woman was being attacked. Footage shows a hooded man shoot Gold in the stomach. Police said the man then tried to shoot Gold a second time, but the gun jammed, so the suspect took the woman’s purse and ran off.

Less than a day after that the incident, a couple was entering a parked car when an armed man entered the backseat of the car and demanded cash and credit cards from them at gunpoint, according to arrest documents obtained by the Times-Picayune.

Police believe that man was Cain, and they said he made the woman drive the car to an abandoned school’s parking lot. Cain allegedly raped the woman in the back of the car and made the man perform oral sex on him at gunpoint.

Cain was arrested Nov. 23 in connection with Gold’s shooting.

A Dec. 3 report from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab matched an existing DNA sample from Cain to ejaculate fluid found on the rape victim. The warrant was issued on Dec. 8 after investigators confirmed that the sex between Cain and the victim was not consensual.

Cain’s bond was increased to $7 million, in light of the new allegations.

Gold was released from the hospital and reported to be in “guarded condition” on Dec. 2.
