Lauren H. Mitchell, a second-grade teacher at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City, New Jersey, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Mitchell is married and the victim, who has not been named, cannot legally consent due to her age. Authorities claim they performed oral sex on each other at Mitchell’s residence at least once. Mitchell has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, NY Daily News reported.

Prosecutors said suspicions were raised when teachers noticed “inappropriate interactions” between Mitchell and the teen during a class trip, reported. The county’s special victims unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department investigated Mitchell’s actions, which led to her arrest on June 19.

Mitchell’s bail was set at $150,000 and she remains in custody at Bergen County Jail. She has been ordered to surrender her passport and is required to stay away from the teen. Mitchell is due back in court on July 7.
