NBC's Vice President's Husband Killed Young Daughter

| by Jonathan Constante

The ex-husband of an NBC vice president has been arrested for murdering their 7-year-old daughter.

Neil White, 47, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his daughter, Gabrielle, the Daily Mail reported. The child's mother, Michelle Hord-White, had filed for divorce from Neil in April.

The NBC Universal talent acquisition vice president was not at the family home at the time of the incident. The child's babysitter, Tonette Mahon, rushed to the New Rochelle home on June 6 after receiving several concerning text messages.

When Mahon arrived at the home, she noticed the shades were drawn upstairs.

This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.

"I went upstairs, and I kept calling, 'Neil? Gabrielle?'" Mahon told reporters.

Mahon said that's when White emerged and appeared to be bleeding. He told her that Gabrielle was "in her room resting."

"She saw Mr. White had cuts to his wrist, saw some blood and then she checked on the girl and saw she wasn't moving and called us," New Rochelle Police Captain Robert Gazzola told WCBS.

Authorities believe Gabrielle was asphyxiated, although they are waiting for autopsy results. Her death came just one day after Neil had approved a deal to surrender the family home to Michelle as part of an agreement. They had already been living in separate homes, and were sharing custody of their daughter.

The victim's mother issued the following statement:

No words could sum up all that Gabrielle meant to us but she was our light.

We are broken and devastated that our sweet little girl is gone but we're thankful that we had seven wonderful years with her.

While we begin to mourn privately, we thank those friends, colleagues, neighbors and strangers for the tremendous support that we've already received.

Reverend W. Franklyn Richardson, Michelle's pastor, spent some time with the grieving family.

"She is a woman of great faith. I expect her to get through this. It will not be easy, and will never be over," Richardson told WCBS, adding that there was "no logic or reason" for White's actions.

"He lost himself and in that deep dark place he acted out. And there's no logic or reason. It pushes the boundaries of reason that a father could kill his daughter."

Neil will appear in court again on June 15.

Mayor Noam Bramson said June 7 was "an exceptionally painful day," The Associated Press reported.

"Our entire community mourns this tragic event," Bramson said.
