Burglar Steals Irreplaceable Items From Derek Fisher

| by Lauren Briggs

A burglar reportedly broke into legendary NBA player Derek Fisher's house and made off with his five championship rings.

The suspect reportedly stole more than $300,000 in expensive jewelry, including the rings, which Fisher won while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, reports TMZ Sports.

Fisher called police on the morning of Jan. 31, saying that he left the house at 7:30 a.m. and returned home at 10:30 a.m. When the retired point guard came back, he noticed that somebody had come in and taken his valuables, likely coming in through the side door during that three-hour period, police say.

The LAPD is in the midst of an investigation but has not yet made any arrests, although detectives were reportedly on their way to search Fisher's neighborhood in Tarzana, California, for any evidence, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The robbery comes roughly a year after Fisher was fired as the coach of the New York Knicks, after a two-year stint that he told Bleacher Report laid the foundation for the team's newfound success after his departure.

"We were doing a lot of really good things with the Knicks," Fisher told Bleacher Report during the Jan. 31 interview. "That's what bothers me. The good that was being done got overshadowed by opinion, actually -- inaccurate opinion about a personal matter. Nobody really knows what happened, because there's been just noise about what happened."

But Fisher said that he always bounces back and that his future is looking bright.

"I'm in the success lane," Fisher said. "The one thing about me, whatever it has been or whatever I've tried to do -- even in the failures numbers-wise or statistics-wise or whatever -- I've succeeded in a major way. And that won't stop. So whatever opportunities are presented that I choose, there will be a level of success in that."
