Teacher Nadia Diaz Gets Probation After Having Sex with Student, who Defended Her in Court

Nadia Diaz, a teacher who had sex with 15-year-old boy, was sentenced to three years of probation after the teen asked the court for leniency and said he seduced her.

Diaz, 26, was a substitute teacher at Washington Union High School in Fresno, California, reports the Daily Mail.

The victim, now 18, told the court: "I personally feel that this is one of the rare cases where it shouldn't be taken as child abuse. I believe 100% that Mrs. Diaz made a big mistake and, definitely after we had ended whatever relationship we had, she realized it."

The affair began when the teen asked Diaz for her phone number. Soon their texts became sexual and they ended up having sex twice.

After rumors started in the school about their relationship, Diaz was arrested in January 2010.

Prosecutor Midori Howo objected to probation and said Diaz deserved to be jailed.

Diaz will serve three years probation, spend 30 days in an adult offender work program and will lose her teaching certificate for life.
