Mother Gets 11 Years In Scottish Prison For Beating Son To Death, Hiding Body In Suitcase

Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, of Edinburgh, Scotland, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for beating her three year-old son to death, hiding his body in a suitcase, then leading authorities on a wild goose chase claiming the boy was "missing".

It has recently been uncovered that three year-old Mikaeel Kular was beaten to death some time in mid-January of this year. His mother finally broke under investigation and confessed to her crimes, The Mirror reports.

The mother lost her temper following a family dinner, beating her young son brutally with a closed fist. She refused to take him to the hospital, however, as she thought the bruises would be incriminating.

While it remains unclear exactly what the series of events was that led up to Adekoya's series of violent outbursts against her helpless son, she did tell authorities that she beat her son for being repeatedly sick following a family dinner.

The boy became increasingly sick over the next few days, which was compounded by the harsh beatings he had to endure, until he finally succumbed to his wounds.

Prosecuting lawyer, Alex Prentice, informed the court during Adekoya's trial, "The pain would have increased significantly while Mikaeel became dangerously ill and finally dying as a result of the injuries inflicted upon him by the accused."

The official cause of Mikaeel's death was found to be "blunt force abdominal trauma". A coroner's report showed that the young boy had more than 40 separate injuries to his head and body.

According to The Mirror, Adekoya's internet history include such Google searches as, "I find it hard to love my son", "Why am I so aggressive with my son" and "Get rid of bruises".

During the sentencing, Judge Lord Glennie told Adekoya, "Striking a child even once is bad enough. Striking him heavily and repeatedly with hand and fist when he was being sick again and again simply beggars belief."

"Mikaeel was by all accounts a healthy, happy little boy. By your actions, however unintended, you have not only robbed Mikaeel of his young life but left a gaping hole in the lives of all who loved him."

Following this harsh yet accurate assessment of the situation, Judge Glennie sentenced Rosdeep Adekoya to 11 years in prison.
