Mother Faces Child Abuse Charges For Hanging Toddler By A Hook

A Virginia mother has been arrested after a photo posted to Facebook showed her 14-month-old child hanging from a door frame.

A criminal investigation was opened when authorities were alerted by numerous people to the photo posted on social media, reports Crime Feed. It was shared by the concerned on Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

In the photo, the 14-month-old boy toddler can be seen hanging on a hook by a twisted T-shirt in a door frame, crying and clearly upset.

“We had it assigned to a criminal investigation detective through the child victim unit. When she responded, she did an investigation and found that it wasn’t a nail, it was actually a planter hook that the child was hanging from. But the child was absolutely fine,” Sgt. James Konicki with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said. “The baby’s father and mother had an argument and in retaliation the father posted this on Facebook to get the mother in trouble.”

The investigation discovered the photo was taken between Sept. 1 and Sept. 10 by the child’s mother, 18-year-old Alexis Breeden.

Breeden turned herself in to police after a felony warrant was issued for her arrest, reports CBS 6. She is facing felony child abuse charges.

In a post on her own Facebook page, Breeden expressed how she felt regarding the situation.

“The cops came to my house twice last night and saw that he was fine. They think this was immature and dumb of me but he saw I was playing and no one needs to know everything going on because some of you aren’t parents and no one knows the full story. Mind your own f******business.”

Breeden has a history of criminal charges, including recently pleading guilty to an assault and battery charge against a family member. She was sentenced to anger management classes.
