Mother And Her Boyfriend To Stand Trial For Murder Of 3-Year-Old Girl

A mother and her live-in boyfriend will stand trial for the murder of the woman’s 3-year-old daughter.

The mother, Jasmine Gordon, 24, and her boyfriend, Clifford Daniel Thomas, 33, have both been charged with felony murder, second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse, reports Click On Detroit.

Thomas is also charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Gordon took her three-year-old daughter, Jamila Smith, to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, the night of Sept. 18, 2014. Upon arrival to the emergency room, the child was pronounced dead.

Jamila had more than 50 injuries over her entire body, according to the medical examiner.

Judge Shannon Holmes said in court that the defendants are good “actors” for pretending they were unaware of the abuse the child had suffered, reports My FOX Detroit. She added that watching their police interview footage was “more like watching a cable TV show.”

"The medical examiner went on to testify that any parent or guardian  and I am going to add a side bar "in their right mind"  would have known that this child was sick and needed medical attention," Holmes said.

Gordon’s attorney argued that Jamila was sick and died from a medical condition.

Gordon and Thomas are both being held without bond. They are scheduled to be arraigned next week.
