A child molester attacked the prosecutor in the courtroom after being convicted of fondling his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter (video below).

Michael T. Cox Jr., 31, of Tularosa, New Mexico, was found guilty on Jan. 20 of criminal criminal sexual contact with a girl under 13. Moments after the jury announced the guilty verdict, Cox was caught on film lunging at and physically attacking Deputy District Attorney Scot Key in the courtroom.

“I have never seen this happen, ever,” Officer KaeDea Smith, who took down Cox, told KRQE. “I mean I have seen it on TV but I’ve never experienced it or seen it in person.”

Smith said she was able to take control of Cox using “the least amount of force possible to go ahead and detain him to get him under control.”

Moments after the jury’s verdict was announced, Key and Cox’s attorney walked back to their seats together after having a sidebar with the judge. That’s when Cox attacked Key.

District Attorney David Ceballes said the jury, staff and others in the courtroom all witnessed the attack on Key.

“Physically attacking a prosecutor in the courtroom when he is only doing his job is unconscionable,” Ceballes said.

Cox has not yet been sentenced for his child molestation crimes, but he now faces additional charges for the attack in court, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Otero County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Cox reportedly touched the genitals of his live-in girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter, who was fully clothed at the time, while she was watching television in July 2014. During the trial, the jury heard that the girl had been too afraid to tell anybody about the incident at the time.

According to court testimony, she told her aunt and grandmother about what had happened the day after the incident. The girl’s mother was reportedly in another room while the molestation occurred.
