Matthew Webster was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Anna Alger during a bizarre road rage incident in St. Albans, Vt.

Alger, a mom with one daughter, was reportedly shot in her back and head.

The incident allegedly began when Webster ran a red light and nearly hit Alger's car on Wednesday, noted WCAX.

According to police, Alger followed Webster for a short while, but when they stopped and got out of their cars, he shot her multiple times.

Webster was arrested a short distance away with the gun that was used in the alleged shooting. Police say Webster's wife was following her husband in another car and witnessed part of the incident.

"I've been a police officer for 23 years now and I've seen violence of all different kinds, but even after all that, it's still shocking to see something like that happen to two people who seemed not to know each other until they met," said Lt. Ron Hoague of the St. Albans Police Department.

Witness Kyle Gagne filmed Webster's arrest (video below), which he shared with the Burlington Free Press.

Webster will face second-degree homicide charges.
