A Florida thief got more than he bargained for when he tried to rob a house and got the scare of his life when he found himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. The entire dramatic burglary attempt gone wrong was caught on the house's security camera (video below).
The suspect has not been caught yet, but authorities are optimistic that the video footage because it offers a decent view of the suspect, who is wearing a red t-shirt and matching baseball cap and is driving a silver Mercedes sports car, notes WLS.
In the security footage, provided by KTNV, the suspect, who has parked his vehicle on the victim's Miami Gardens, Florida, lawn, walks up to the house, takes a glance around and then attempts to open the door. When the knob does not budge, he kicks at it in an effort to break it down.
"All of the sudden I hear some banging noise," the victim, who requested to remain anonymous, told WPLG. "I thought it was my dreams or something."

When she heard the commotion, she glanced at her security cameras and saw that there was a stranger attempting to break down the door. At that point, she said, she followed her instincts, ran into her bedroom, grabbed her shotgun and waited by the door.
"I will do anything to protect my family," the woman told the station, explaining that her children were "screaming and crying hysterically, because they were afraid of anything happening."
Indeed, the would-be burglar was in for a nasty shock when he finally did get through the door and saw the protective mother pointing the weapon at him.
The security footage picks up what happens next: He sees the gun, bolts to his car and peels out into the street.

"He was running for his life and he kept looking back making sure I wasn't going to just shoot him in the back," said the mom.
She explained that she decided not to shoot the man, because her children, including a baby, were there, and she was focused on "not traumatizing them." According to WLS, the woman has a 3-year-old and a 10-year-old.
Now, she is having trouble sleeping.
"Any little noise I listen to, I have to constantly look at my camera or look at my window," she explained to WTVD.
Police said that the car the burglar was driving was a stolen one and they have since found it.
