Residents of an Oregon town feel their local sheriff is not doing enough to prevent crime, so they are taking matters into their own hands.
Crime in the Clackamas County neighborhood of Milwaukee has been on the rise for a while and prompted a group of neighbors to post signs saying, “This is a Glock block. We don’t call 911.”
Coy Toloman is helping to push the new initiative. She got her concealed carry permit after a statue was stolen off her front porch right in front of her.
“We’re starting a new group,” Toloman said. “We don’t feel neighborhood watch is sufficient, and we don’t feel the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is sufficient.”
Even though most of the crime in the neighborhood is not particularly violent and includes instances like stolen lawn ornaments or vandalism, residents have simply had enough.
“I will defend myself and my home,” Toloman said. “I think more people should be trained, [with] permits to carry.”
With more and more Milwaukie neighbors choosing to arm themselves, guns are often a hot topic in the neighborhood, KOIN reported. According to Toloman, conversations often turn to “what kind of gun they have” or “the best gun shop.”
Police caution against any vigilantism so it is unclear how the new “Glock block” will fare.
