Two police officers were shot in Killeen, Texas, and one was killed on Saturday night after a gunfight with a military veteran armed with an AK-47.
According to KCEN-TV, the incident began after the unidentified military vet began threatening people with a long rifle by an apartment complex pool.
When a SWAT team arrived at the apartment complex around midnight, the military veteran had returned to his residence, but was still brandishing a long rifle in a threatening manner.
He allegedly fired a shot, but then appeared to give himself up. When police officers moved in to make an arrest, the military vet reportedly opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle.
Two officers were hit and the suspect was killed. One of the officers was pronounced dead less than an hour later. The surviving police officer reportedly underwent emergency surgery.
