Michael Porter, a 30-year-old Michigan man, was charged with child abuse after he reportedly waterboarded his girlfriend's 5-year-old son. Porter's bail was set at $400,000 during his court hearing on Monday.

Porter tied the young boy up with belts, leaned him backwards over a footstool and then covered his face with underwear, according to the Huffington Post. Porter then proceeded to pour water over the boy's face.

Mount Morris Police Chief Keith Becker said that he also used a knife to poke his girlfriend's 12-year-old son in the chest and throat.

Becker reportedly waterboarded the boy as a punishment for ripping his backpack, Daily Mail reports.

The crimes happened on May 12 and were uncovered when school officials reported to police that the child was acting strange.

Porter was charged with unlawful imprisonment, second degree child abuse, second degree child abuse in the presence of another child, assault with a dangerous weapon, and third degree child abuse.
