Michael Dunn Shoots, Kills Unarmed Black Teen Jordan Davis

article image

Michael Dunn, of Satellite Beach, Florida, was in Jacksonville this past weekend for his son’s wedding.

Jordan Davis, 17, and some other teens were sitting in a SUV in a parking lot when Dunn parked next to them and asked the youths to turn down their music.

Jordan Davis and Dunn argued over the music, then Dunn, who is a gun collector, pulled a gun and shot eight or nine times, hitting Jordan twice, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

Jordan Davis' father Ron Davis said his unarmed son died in the arms of a friend in the SUV.

Dunn and his girlfriend took off, but witnesses wrote down their license plate number, according to the police.

The couple was staying in a Jacksonville hotel when they heard a news report Saturday morning about the shooting, so they drove home to Satellite Beach, Florida.

Dunn was arrested at his home on Saturday and charged with murder and attempted murder. He is being held without bail.

Dunn’s attorney said that he acted responsibly and in self-defense. Dunn may use Florida’s 'Stand Your Ground' law, which became famous after the Trayvon Martin killing.

I don't see any indication

I don't see any indication this was racially motivated - so why point out that the victim was black? Blacks murder whites every day and the headlines never read "Black thug kills unarmed white man". In fact, rarely are there even headlines at all.

Yesterday's New York Times

Yesterday's New York Times article on this case says Dunn admitted arguing with the teens and he thought he saw a gun, so he opened fire from his car into their suv. If these are the facts & I were on the jury I would convict Dunn of murder. 1.) the teenagers had no gun. 2.) The teens never left their vehicle 3.) Dunn could easily have left the scene if he felt threatened 4.) Dunn initiated the confrontation, knew he was armed so therefore knew he could defend himself so he had no justification for initiating deadly force. This seems pretty cut & dry, not worth any controversy. This is NOT al all like the Trayvon Martin case where witnesses testified to seeing Martin on top of Zimmerman slamming his head into a cement curb & medical confirmation of Zimmerman's lacerations & concussion. In the Martin case, regardless of who initiated the violence a jury may believe Zimmerman had a reasonable fear for his life. The media circus & political exploitation of the Martin case tainted witnesses, the jury pool & forced the prosecutor to file a 2nd degree murder charge that isn't justified by the forensic evidence. Since Zimmerman has already been arraigned on that charge, he will probably be acquitted(if not in his first trial, at least on appeal). The prosecutor will most likely face charges of prosecutory misconduct, and rightly so, so bowing to political pressure & overcharging Zimmerman who will walk free though he may well be guilty of manslaughter, which he now can never be charged with in this case. http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/dershowitz-zimmerman-arrest-affidavit-irresponsible-and-unethical/

Prosecutors should learn to ignore Al Sharpton if the value their own careers.

Nice to know it's possible to

Nice to know it's possible to kill people in self defense, when they are violently sitting in their own car and listening to music at you. I can't count the number of times I've been attacked by people sitting in their own cars listening to music, and I was lucky to get away with my life!

And this douchebag has the authority to tell other people in public to turn down their music how exactly? His badge is issued by what law enforcement agency? Exactly - he doesn't have the authority to tell anyone any such thing and there was no self defense here, just a blatant murder committed by him.

What ever happened to let the

What ever happened to let the system determine the facts before we start jumping conclusions? As usual, the media is "acting stupidly". The poor SOB looks like he's guilty of being white more than guilty of murder. There would be no story if this were a black on black killing. The racist bastards on the left have convicted Dunn (of being white) no matter what the facts may be. Guilty or not, this type of sensational media coverage is destroying any credibility the media once had.

cityboy's picture

Nowhere in the story did they

Nowhere in the story did they mention the race of either party in this crime - and the only reason we know the perpetrator is white is because the author included a picture of the guy.

The only evidence I see of a "racist bastard" anywhere around is where one is accusing other people of being such.

Actually, the media has made

Actually, the media has made it pretty clear that Dunn killed an African American boy.

That said, I agree that it's a mistake to yell "racism!" simply because one is white and one is African American. The facts may prove it was, but there certainly isn't enough information presented in this article or any that I have read to say either way.

From my below comment: From what I've seen they freak out about black on white and black on black killings all the time. For me, race doesn't have anything to do with it. Please don't presume to think that of me. My anger was based on the facts presented in the article. I think it is a sick distortion of justice to try to cover this under 'stand your ground' if this happened in the way the article described.

That's disgusting. This wasn't standing his ground. This was a race murder. This man should be waterboarded and hung.

"Waterboarded and hung?" Nice

"Waterboarded and hung?" Nice to see that you are so open minded. I'm sure you would hold the same opinion if the dead guy was white and the black guy was the shooter, but then there would only be a one-liner on page 10. See my main comment about instant conviction by the media. Until we actually know what happened not what was written to inflame racist sentiment the only guilty party here is the media.

Kalthian's picture

I don't see what

I don't see what 'open-mindedness' has to do with it? Someone commits a crime like this, I would like to see them punished horribly, after they are convicted, but I thought that went without saying in this country (innocent until proven guilty). One proven guilty, that, to me, is a pretty terrible way to die hence why I chose it to express my outrage at this. To me, yes, race is irrelevant.

I would be interested if you can find an example like your describing. I seems to me that there would be far more outcry if an older armed black man shot an innocent unarm white kid. The media loves freaking out about missing and dead white kids. But maybe I'm misunderstanding you.
