Mexican Drug Cartels Torture, Decapitate Blogger
A blogger who wrote negative posts about the Mexican drug cartels has been found decapitated, with a note saying that her writing led to her torturous death. It is the third such murder this month.
The body of the woman identified as Marisol Macias Castaneda was found on a road in the border town of Nuevo Laredo. The body was half nude and was missing limbs. The head was nearby.
Macias Castaneda was reportedly a newsroom manager for a local newspaper. But it was not her work at the paper that drew the ire of the Zetas drug cartel. Rather, it was her posts on the local social website Nuevo Laredo Live, reports the Associated Press.
She wrote under the anonymous name of "Laredo Girl." But somehow the cartel found out who she was. A note found next to the body read:
Nuevo Laredo en Vivo and social networking sites, I'm The Laredo Girl, and I'm here because of my reports, and yours. For those who don't want to believe, this happened to me because of my actions, for believing in the army and the navy. Thank you for your attention, respectfully, Laredo Girl...ZZZZ.
The Zs refer to the Zetas cartel, the AP said.
Earlier this month the bodies of two bloggers were found hanging from a bridge, with a note warning people to stop "posting funny things on the Internet" about the cartels.
