An Ivy League alumnus and self-proclaimed “math whiz” who taught at the prestigious Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, New York, has been arrested and criminally charged on suspicions that he engaged in oral sex with a young student.
Richard Hovan, 30, was indicted in Manhattan Criminal Court for child endangerment and criminal sex acts. The two felony counts stem from a suspected relationship between Hovan and a teenage student that lasted from December 2010 to May 2011, according to the Daily News.

The indictment alleges that Hovan brought one of his 16-year-old students back to his condo in the west side neighborhood of Chelsea for oral sex on two occasions. The condemning evidence includes the girl’s testimony and a vast amount of sexually explicit text messages and phone calls made between Hovan and his victim.
Riverdale Country School fired Hovan in May over the accusations and just this week, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office decided to proceed with the prosecution.
ADA Shandra Strain had Hovan arrested on Monday. He was released on $25,000 bail pending trial.
