Police arrested and charged a Mississippi couple for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.

Officers said that an investigation into illegal sex acts led them to 40-year-old Cory William Skalla and his wife, 26-year-old Ariel Skalla, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, reports The Sun Herald.

Cory Skalla was arrested for reportedly using pornography or similarly sexual photos to lure minors into sex.

He also faces six counts of sexual battery and two counts of molesting a child for lustful purposes. His bail was set at $10,000.

As of the Aug. 2 report, Ariel Skalla's bail had not yet been set, but she has been charged with two counts of touching a child for sexual purposes.

The investigation is ongoing, and the couple will likely be charged with additional counts before all is said and done, said Ocean Springs police captain William Jackson.

If the Skallas are charged with sexual assault or statutory rape, they could face life in prison, according to FindLaw.

Few details have been released about the case, but Jackson noted that it is unrelated to a separate incident around the same time in which a 33-year-old woman in the same city was arrested on two counts of sexual battery of a teenage boy less than half her age, reports The Sun Herald. Police investigated the case involving Corri Louise Collins after the boy's parents lodged a formal complaint July 26.

If you suspect that your teen is being sexually abused, RAINN suggests maintaining an open and blame-free relationship with them, trusting your instincts and asking them about it.

"It seems like common sense because it is,"  R. Daryl Steiner, director of Child Protection and Child Abuse Prevention at Akron Children's Hospital in Ohio, told CNN. "But just knowing what your children are doing and being involved in their lives, not only with general knowledge but with your physical presence, allows you to monitor the situation. It also established you as a parent who's active in your child's life, which makes you an obstacle for someone trying to groom your child for abuse."

RAINN notes that it is better to be wrong than to make them cope on their own. Common signs of sexual abuse in teens include unusually dramatic weight change, unusual eating habits, unexplained bruises, signs of depression (withdrawing from their regular activities, frequent sadness and lack of energy, for example), anxiety, sudden failing grades, self harm, drug use, sudden lack of self-care or lack of hygiene, suicidal ideation or behavior and sexually transmitted infections.
