33-Year-Old Manuel Mikes Reportedly Killed Infant Stepdaughter

Manuel Mikes of Millville, New Jersey, was arrested for allegedly killing his 9-week-old stepdaughter Friday morning.

Paramedics pronounced the baby dead at the scene at 6:45 a.m. Her mother was in the hospital at the time.

Police officers responded to a call about a suspicious death at 6:30 a.m. Lt. Jody Farabella said that police originally thought the girl may have suffocated during the night while sleeping in the same bed as Mikes. However, the cause of death was quickly changed to blunt force trauma to the back of the head.

The New Jersey Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death a homicide.

Mikes, 33, was charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in the Cumberland County Jail on $1 million bail.

Mikes will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

Police are continuing the investigation.
