A San Francisco-area man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to gun down two police officers.

Ivan DeJesus Gomez, 23, was captured after a 7-hour manhunt on Thursday.

According to NBC, the incident began when officers responded to a 3:00 a.m. call about gunshots being heard. As they began to investigate the neighborhood, someone opened fire on them. The police shot back, and the gunman ultimately fled.

A SWAT team was called in and officials spent more than seven hours searching the surrounding area before eventually finding Gomez at 10:30 a.m. They were able to apprehend him safely – with both the suspect and the police involved emerging from the encounter unscathed.

A weapon that officials believe was used by Gomez to shoot at the officers was also recovered, the Huffington Post reports.

Gomez was ultimately arrested for attempted murder. It remains to be seen if any other charges will be filed.
