A man identified as Carlos Peralta confessed to setting a house on fire to a TV news crew that was covering the blaze on Nov. 19 in Rockville, Md.

"Me! Me! I set it on fire," Peralta told WJLA (video below). "I just poured gasoline on the floor, set it on fire, went to grab a drink, and came back."

When asked by a WJLA reporter why he set the home on fire, Peralta replied, "Just so you could get here… for your attention."

Peralta claimed the home had deplorable living conditions and said that he reported the problems.

He then approached two police officers and told them, "I set the house on fire."

Peralta was taken to the Rockville Police Department and charged with arson and reckless endangerment.

According to the New York Post, police say that Peralta was one of six people living in the two-story house.

No one was injured by the fire, which caused $400,000 worth of a damage to the house.
