An Indiana man spent Christmas in jail after attempting to kill his pregnant girlfriend’s unborn child with an herbal supplement known to cause miscarriages.

Jarod Rebuck, 25, has been charged with attempted feticide after spiking his girlfriend's drink on Christmas. The victim claimed to have noticed a strange odor coming from a drink she received from Rebuck and called the police when she found Google searches for “ways to cause a miscarriage” on his phone.

Madison County Sheriff's Department investigators say they found clary sage in the concoction Rebuck prepared for his girlfriend. The herbal supplement is often used as an antidepressant and for menstrual cramps. It has also been linked to miscarriages.

Rebuck confessed to police that he indeed made the alleged Google searches on his phone and that he put a substance in his girlfriend’s drink in hopes that it would cause a miscarriage.

Luckily, the woman and her unborn child were not harmed.

Rebuck is being held on $20,000 bond. Prosecutors are trying to decide if additional charges are needed.
