A South Carolina man was having sex with a prostitute in a van on the night of May 12 when he was fatally shot by an unknown assailant.
Police arrived on the scene to find Ladontes Miller, 34, dead in a Mazda van. The vehicle was situated behind a residence with its back bumper pressed against the house as though it had crashed. The headlights and engine were both on, according to The Post and Courier.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing what he described as a loud bang. A number of people convened around the vehicle before police arrived. They saw Miller slumped over in the driver's seat and a woman in the back who appeared to be "strung out."
Witnesses told police the woman pulled the door shut when they attempted to help her out of the vehicle. They said she proceeded to use narcotics in the back seat.

The incident report described the woman as a "known prostitute." Police reportedly found her squatting behind the open driver's side door, covered in blood.
She explained to investigators that she had met Miller earlier that day but said she did not know his name. WSCS reports that she told officers Miller was a friend of hers.
While she initially denied that Miller had picked her up for sex, she later admitted that they were indeed engaging in sex when a gunman approached the vehicle and shot Miller once before driving away.
According to the police report, the woman had been smoking crack and was unable to provide any details about the shooter.
