Man Sentenced To Three Years In Jail For Putting Child In Hot Clothes Dryer

A man was sentenced to three years in jail for shoving his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son in a hot dryer.

According to reports, 28-year-old Adam Morton was looking after the toddler while his girlfriend was at work. The child suffered second-degree burns, which matched the pattern of the dryer, as well as cuts that came from bolts on the inside of the appliance.

Police determined, after running tests on the dryer, that it was capable of reaching temperatures of 180 degrees in just three minutes.

The child was rushed to the emergency room at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Berlin, New Hampshire, after his mother returned home from work to discover his disturbing injuries.

Despite telling his girlfriend that he only put the toddler in the dryer for one spin, authorities determined that he’d been inside for a prolonged period of time.

In January, Morton pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and was originally set to be sentenced to two years behind bars. It was ultimately decided that the sentence was not long enough considering the severity of the crime.

Michael Sousa, the boy’s biological father, said he believes Morton should’ve been charged with attempted murder and given a longer sentence.

Sousa also revealed that his son has fully recovered from the traumatic abuse.

“He is happy, he's talking, he's running around,” Sousa said of the boy, who is now three years old. “He is back on the fast track, and he is climbing, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve justice.”
