A man in New York was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for gunning down a teen who flirted with his wife.

Lawrence Jones was sentenced on Friday for the May 25th, 2012 murder of 18-year-old Isaiah Roberts. According to reports, Roberts was lured to the scene of the crime by someone associated with Jones, where he was confronted by the jealous husband for his alleged flirting.

Roberts, an aspiring architect originally from Trinidad, engaged in an argument with Jones before Jones pulled out a gun. Roberts attempted to run away, but was shot in the back. When police arrived, he was lying face down on the street.

“Jones killed this young man for no other reason than he believed he disrespected, a simple flirtation, on a bus, that happened long before this incident,” Judge Michael Gary said.

Throughout his sentencing, Jones maintained his innocence and claimed that the prosecutor had evidence to prove that a witness recanted his testimony.
