Man Sentenced To 18 Years For Abusing Infant Son

A Louisiana man who admitted to hurting his 1-year-old son when the child refused to eat chicken has been sentenced by a judge to an 18-year sentence.

Chad Wayne Daigle, 32, stood before Judge Ron Ware as the sentence was read. The father will serve a sentence of 18 years, with 10 suspended, followed by five years of supervised probation.

In 2013, Daigle was arrested when his son was found to have a fractured skull, broken jaw and cerebral hemorrhages. Daigle initially said the injuries were caused by their dog hitting his tail against the baby, but later admitted to hitting the baby because he refused to eat chicken.

Daigle plead guilty to the charges earlier this year, but in court before sentencing, he told the room he was sorry for what he did. Daigle also made it clear the abuse was not intentional and that he loves his son.

“I just want to be healthy,” said Daigle, who has been diagnosed with severe mental illness.
