'He Took A Part Of Us': Man Indicted For Beating 2-Year-Old Girl

| by Dominic Kelly

A grand jury indicted an Ohio man who allegedly beat his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter in October.

According to reports, 21-year-old Trey Rice was indicted and arrested on Thursday for the assault on 2-year-old Da’Nya Williams. Rice has now officially been charged with felonious assault and two counts of child endangerment.

Back in October, Williams was hospitalized after the assault in her mother’s home where Rice also lived. Rice initially claimed that the infant fell off of a bed and became unconscious when he was home alone with her, but the little girl’s family says they never believed his story.

“I knew from the first day. It was obvious,” said Davon Williams, Da'Nya's father. “She’s in the hospital while he’s outside having Thanksgiving with his family.”

As a result of the alleged beating, the 2-year-old girl suffered severe brain bleeding and most likely lost sight in one of her eyes.

“What kind of monster puts his hands on a defenseless 2-year-old girl? How can he sleep at night?” said Shenetta Hughes, the little girl’s grandmother. “Da'Nya deserves justice, and we're not going to sit back and not let Da'Nya have justice. He took a part of us.”

Rice is currently being held on $200,000 bond at Hamilton County Jail after being arraigned on Friday night.
