An unidentified man allegedly fired 50 rounds Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the upscale Fashion Island shopping mall in Newport Beach, Calif.
The shooting -- which reportedly didn't wound anyone except one individual who was hurt trying to flee -- sent frenzied holiday shoppers scurrying for cover. Numerous individuals, who quickly turned to Twitter and Facebook, say they were locked inside stores, although the Los Angeles Times says the mall itself was never in "lockdown."
Popular VideoCongress just passed a drug testing law that has a lot of people outraged. Do you think this is wrong?
According to the L.A. Times: The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shots were fired about 4:35 p.m. in the parking lot near Macy’s, said Kathy Lowe, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.
Police searched the mall but did not find anyone who had been injured by the shots. The suspect apparently was trying to get into a white Volvo at the time of his arrest, Lowe said. The mall was not locked down, but individual stores may have been, she said.
