Tommy Meadows, 65, reportedly got into a fight with his wife Wanda Meadows, 61, but shot her sister, Etta Medley, 61, at the Double Springs Community Church in Cookeville, Tenn.

According to WSMV, the incident happened before the 9 a.m. church service yesterday (video below).

Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews told The Tennessean that Tommy stormed into the church where his wife and sister-in-law were sitting. Tommy had a physical altercation with his wife, whom he reportedly intended to shoot, but accidentally shot Medley in the abdomen instead.

When police arrived, they found Tommy dead in the church basement of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“We’re doing sketches, photographs,” Sheriff Andrews said. “We’ve been doing interviews. We’re treating it just like a homicide, like we didn’t know anything.”

Medley was taken to the Cookeville Regional Hospital where she is in critical condition.

The services at Double Springs Community Church were cancelled after the shooting.
