Dixon admitted to punching the 21-year-old woman to the ground after making passes at her and discovering she was transgender. He continued to punch her while she lay unconscious on the street.

Nettles was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brain dead due to the injuries caused by Dixon. Three days later, she was taken off life support, according to DNAInfo New York.

“I just didn’t want to be fooled,” Dixon told prosecutors in court April 4 after admitting his guilt.

Dixon is facing up to 25 years in prison.
