A British man is facing a judge after his arrest for allegedly having sex with a Shetland pony.
According to reports, 44-year-old Alan Barfield was arrested after police were called to Oak Tree Stables in Loversall, Doncaster by residents who thought the man was going to steal ponies one August night in 2012. When police were questioning Barfield, officers noticed that he was “sweating profusely and smelled strongly of horses.”
During recent court proceedings, the prosecution alleged that Barfield was seen putting something around a pony’s neck and leading two animals into a dark wooded area.
“It is at this time the prosecution say that intercourse took place out of sight in a dark wooded area at the end of the paddock,” Prosecutor Louise Reevell said.

Upon searching Barfield for items he may have used to steal the ponies, officers reportedly found “several cans of Lynx deodorant, a length of white electrical cable, a handheld water sprayer, a cloth, a metal dog chain and two bottles of Lucozade,” according to The Daily Mirror.
Despite Barfield’s claims that he didn’t engage in sexual intercourse with the Shetland pony, owner Jodie Watson says the animal looked uncomfortable the following day. Reports also say that horse DNA was found on a sample taken from Barfield and that police discovered bestiality images on his phone. The trial is ongoing, but Barfield maintains that he was “just out walking” when residents spotted him on the night in question.
