Austin Hamilton, 24, is being charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse for beating his girlfriend's baby to death with a leather belt while he was supposed to be babysitting the child and the child's older brother.
The baby, whose name was Sincere Williams, was the son of Tiffany Williams of Tampa, Florida. Tiffany Williams left her two sons, age 1 and 6, in the care of her boyfriend at a Motel 6 while she was at work.
At around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night, while Hamilton was changing baby Sincere's diaper, the baby allegedly urinated on the 24-year-old. Hamilton then removed his leather belt and mercilessly beat the baby repeatedly.
Hamilton called 911 after noticing that the child was not breathing properly. When first responders showed up at the scene, they found the baby unresponsive and rushed him to St. Joseph's Hospital. Sincere was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"According to a Tampa Police Department report, Hamilton told officers at the scene he didn't hit the victim and was not involved in any accidents that could have caused his death," The Daily Mail reports.
Later, when the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office report concluded that the baby died of blunt trauma to the lower abdomen, Hamilton changed his story.
After the report was published, Hamilton told authorities "he 'lost control' and hit the baby several times with a leather belt. He said he tried to pick the baby up, but Sincere fell and hit his head," reports The Daily Mail.
The six year-old was not injured or believed to be involved in the incident in any way. Police will continue to investigate the murder. In the meantime, Hamilton has been booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
