An arrest has been made in connection to a Sunday home invasion in Atlanta, where a group of home invaders shot at a young couple with their children.

Brandon Jerome Smith, 18, was arrested and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault on Friday.

On the evening of Aug. 16, the Lash family responded to a group of teenagers knocking on their door asking to borrow a jack for their car.

The group then tried to force their way inside the home, but Michael Lash tried to close the door on them.

"He said, 'I can't let you (in) because my wife and two children are in there.' They said, 'We want to go in and see them.'" Michael's mother-in-law Jessica Huffman said to WSB-TV. "So they shot him in his leg and then they shot him in his other leg."

Whitney Lash, Michael's wife, grabbed her infant daughter after hearing the shots and ran to a neighbor's home through the back door. Two gun shots were fired at her, but she was not hit.

Michael was taken in for surgery, and is expected to recover from his wounds.

A Crime Stoppers sketch led to Smith's arrest, as investigators received more than a dozen tips on the suspect.

Police say Smith was carrying a stolen .40 caliber handgun when he was arrested. George Turner, police chief for Atlanta, said authorities believe Smith to be Michael's shooter, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police are still searching for three more people involved in the home invasion.
