A Brooklyn, New York, man was arrested for the rape of a 56-year-old woman.
Raymond Jenkins, 22, was taken into custody on Feb. 9, the New York Daily News reports.
He allegedly beat, choked, robbed and raped the woman on Feb. 5 after following her onto the elevator of her Bronx apartment building.
The assault took place in a stairwell.
When the elevator stopped at the woman’s floor, Jenkins allegedly choked her with one hand, punched her with the other, and then dragged her into the stairwell. A total of $140 was stolen from the woman’s bra, as well as two cellphones she had in her possession. She was then raped, police said.
Jenkins insists he is innocent.
“I didn't do nothing. You can check my background. I never did anything like this,” he said as police took him into custody. “I just wanna get with my paid lawyer to figure out what's going on.”
Jenkins was charged with rape, robbery, assault, sex abuse and other charges, WNBC reports.
Jenkins’ criminal record consists of seven prior arrests, three of which are sealed, according to New York Daily News sources. His most recent offense was in 2012 for robbery.
Jenkins yelled “I love you! I love you!" to his sister and a pregnant woman, who said she is his wife, upon his arrest.
Both women believe he is innocent.
“We have a child on the way. I’ll be six months pregnant,” Nyasia Soto, 20, said. “I don’t believe it and I won’t believe it. I would have never laid down with a man who would do something like this. It’s impossible.”
“He has a family and a kid on the way. They’re throwing his life away. Yes, he’s had trouble in the past, but nothing like this,” his sister, Darshell Hines, 21, said.
