Man Arrested For Allegedly Planning An ISIS-Style Attack On US Capitol

A man in Ohio has been arrested after he allegedly admitted to planning a terrorist attack on the United States Capitol.

The man in question, Christopher Lee Cornell, also went by Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah, reports ABC. He apparently first appeared on the FBI’s radar after voicing support for Jihad on social media. An investigation into his affairs led authorities to discover that he allegedly sought to “detonate pipe bombs” at the U.S. Capitol and “open fire on any employees and officials after the bombs went off.”

According to CBS News, he was in the “early stages” of setting up the attack. ABC News describes the man as an “ISIS supporter” who was looking to “carry out a ‘jihad’ style attack” in Washington.

PZ reports that he was found with guns and 600 rounds of ammunition, but this has not yet been confirmed.

We will continue to update this story as more information comes in.
