After being chased into a Pittsburgh-area Target store on Monday, a knife-wielding man slashed two men and seriously injured a 16-year-old girl by stabbing her. The suspect ran into the store in the East Liberty neighborhood after a fight with several men down the street.
According to police spokeswoman Diane Richard, the man was seen chasing one of his pursuers from the Target restroom before running toward the store’s checkout lanes and grabbing the teenage girl. He held her in front of him while screaming that he had been robbed.
Police were able to use pepper spray to subdue the suspect, but not before the girl was cut in the back and arm, reports Fox News. One of the men that were injured received a cut on the lip. The other sustained deep cuts on his fingers.
“Why would someone come after a teenager?” witness Kristen Mohler asked. “It’s just terrible and … I felt like it could happen to anyone and I was shocked and horrified that it happened to her, someone so young.”
The girl was taken to Children's Hospital and is in serious condition. A police officer and the suspect were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for pepper spray exposure. After complaining of chest pains, a bystander was also taken to a hospital.
