A married woman and her alleged lover were reportedly stabbed to death by the woman’s husband in Brooklyn, New York.

The body of Jerome Barrett, 35, was found first on Wednesday outside of an apartment complex. The man had been stabbed several times, according to police.

The next day, police discovered the body of Jonelle Barker, 36, inside of the trunk of Barrett’s car. Barker and Barrett reportedly worked together as baggage handlers at JFK Airport and were having an affair, reports the New York Daily News.

Police believe Barker’s husband, 48-year-old Steve Whittingham, found his wife and Barrett having sex in his car and stabbed them both several times in the chest. Barrett, who was also married, reportedly fled the scene with his clothing and wallet in hand, and ran to a nearby apartment building, where he rang the front entrance buzzer for help. But Barrett reportedly collapsed in front of the building and his clothes and wallet were discovered a few feet away from his body.

Police say Barker was naked when they found her inside of the man’s trunk.

Hours after her body was found, Whittingham reportedly surrendered. He reportedly told police he drove off in Barrett’s car with his wife after the lover fled and abandoned the car believing his wife was still alive, reports CBS News.

Whittingham has been charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder. According to neighbors, the couple had children and the suspect is a “family man” who works in a garage.

If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole.
