Authorities arrested a South Carolina man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl.
“He rapes me when mommy goes to work,” the young girl told police, WBTW reports.
Quinton Altonio Leonard, 33, reportedly raped the girl while she was napping, but because “she did not want to get in trouble,” she continued feigning sleep. She indicated this happened more than once while her mother was at work.
She kept the secret to herself because she said her mother was happy with Leonard. But the 9-year-old later revealed to classmates that a man who lived in her house inappropriately touched her. Police responded after one of the classmates told their parents, causing them to report it.
Police took the girl and four other children, ages 1 to 11, into protective custody. The victim also endured a forensic interview and medical evaluation.
Leonard was arrested on June 20 and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor under age 11.
Leonard is not the first South Carolina man to capture national attention in June 2016 for raping a child, Breitbart reports.
On June 14, Ricky Anthony Yeldell, Jr., 23, was sentenced to at least twenty years in prison after he raped and infected a 5-year-old girl with STDs.
“After Yeldell serves the 20-year active prison sentence in the state prison system he will have an additional 15-year consecutive sentence hanging over his head should he violate his probation conditions,” explains David Stumbo, solicitor for the Eighth Judicial Circuit in Greenville. “Those conditions include sex offender registry, GPS monitoring and no contact with minor children.”
The incident shocked and disgusted many.
“It’s absolutely despicable to think that a grown man, who is supposed to protect, could harm a young child in such a way,” Stumbo added. “We will fight for our kids as long as I am in this office to put sick predators like Ricky Yeldell where they belong – behind bars.”
